A lot of people have asked which food colors I used for these patties…so here it is! It’s Wilton Gel Food Colors.
Easter is just around the corner and so is our Spring break!! We leave this Sunday for a whirlwind trip to Southern California. First stop – Disneyland 🙂 We’re doing a couple of days at Disneyland, then it’s down to San Diego for three days where we’re going to Sea World, San Diego Zoo Safari Park and Legoland. The last day we’re going to Magic Mountain and then coming back the night before Easter.
Whew!
You can see why I’m planning ahead 🙂 I’m starting with my FAVORITEST candy ever – mint patties! You know I make these babies for every holiday; Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day…I’m addicted.
They are just SO easy and SO fun and the boys just adore them. So do I. Seriously though, what’s not to love?
Since it’s Easter time, I decided to go with pastels for the mints. I went with mint flavoring for this batch but you all know I’m partial to lemon and these patties are excellent with lemon flavoring. You can’t go wrong either way.
I also loved doing the pastel colors because it requires so little in the way of food color. Always work with gel food colors if you can. The color is so much richer and you don’t need a whole lot to achieve the color you desire.
I’m packing these babies away and I’ll be able to pull them out Easter morning and look like a hero. Now if I could only magically get all those Easter eggs colored and dyed in the next 6 days I’d be golden 🙂

Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic however ,
I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing a blog post or vice-versa?
My site covers a lot of the same subjects as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from
each other. If you’re interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you! Fantastic blog by the way!

These look delicious, I’m going to make them for my sister’s confirmation! How long do they last for if they’re stored in an airtight container? Thanks so much and enjoy your trip 🙂

Oh my gosh! I’m so happy you shared this on Link Party Palooza…I forgot all about these mints. My friend’s mom used to make them all the time when I was little and I loved them but forgot all about them. Looks like I’ll have to run to the store cause now I’m not gonna be able to stop thinking about them 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Mmmmmm….. mint patties! My recipe is similar to yours, except I don’t use corn syrup nor do I roll them in sugar. Instead, I freeze them and once frozen, dip them into chocolate. I also use different flavorings and my all time favorite is orange patties dipped into dark chocolate! Yum!
Enjoy your trip. We took our youngest son to Legoland and Disneyland when he was 9 years old. Legoland was his favorite! We have such good memories of that trip and I hope you make wonderful memories as well!

Have a wonderful time on your trip!! Your visiting so many of my favorite places… Just last weekend when my dad and I were at a ball game, I told him how much I missed Disneyland and really wanted to go back. For about 7-10 years, I went every single year (for middle and high school band). I haven’t been for 2 summers, so… Can I tag along in your suitcase?? 😉

Was wondering what coloring you used? Plain food coloring or a gel? Thanks!!!
Abby says
The plain food coloring is better but you can use gel coloring.
