Chicken Cordon Bleu Crescent Rolls Recipe
These Chicken Cordon Bleu Crescent Rolls are one of my go-to recipes when I need something quick, easy, and totally delicious. There’s just something about the combination of melty Swiss cheese, savory ham, and tender chicken wrapped up in flaky crescent dough that feels like pure comfort food.
It’s one of those dishes that looks impressive, but it doesn’t take much time or effort to make. It’s the perfect easy dinner for a busy weeknight or when I’m hosting friends and want something everyone will love.
I love how versatile this recipe is, too. Sometimes, I make it for dinner with a side salad, and other times I’ll whip it up as an appetizer or snack for a party. And if I’m feeling fancy, I’ll serve it with the honey Dijon mustard sauce (recipe in the recipe card below!) It’s the perfect sweet and tangy pairing.
I roasted up a couple chicken breasts real quick but you could easily substitute Rotisserie Chicken and it would be even easier. The trick is making sure you slice the chicken thinly enough that it’s nice and flexible and rolls well.

Refrigerator: If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply pop them in the oven or air fryer at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until warmed through and crispy. You can also microwave them for a minute or until warm, but the crust won’t be as crispy.
Freezer: These rolls also freeze well! Wrap unbaked rolls individually in plastic wrap or foil, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. They’ll stay fresh for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake in the oven. Wrap baked rolls individually in plastic wrap or foil, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake or airfry to reheat.
Make Ahead: These rolls can be assembled in advance. Place in baking dish, cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, let the baking dish sit out while you preheat the oven and then bake as directed.
Variations to Try
- Instead of Swiss cheese, use cheddar, provolone, or even gouda for a different flavor profile. You could also add a blend of cheeses for extra richness.
- Layer in some sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or caramelized onions for a veggie-packed twist.
- Add a bit of heat by using pepper jack cheese or a touch of Dijon mustard inside the rolls for a tangy kick.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs or Parmesan cheese before baking for an extra crispy, golden crust.
- Try turkey, chicken sausage, or even bacon as a swap for the ham to create a new variation of this dish.

Can I make these rolls ahead of time?
Yes! You can assemble the rolls the night before and store them in the fridge covered with plastic wrap. When you’re ready to bake, just pop them in the oven and cook as directed.
Can I use rotisserie chicken in this recipe?
Absolutely! Rotisserie chicken is a great shortcut. Just shred or slice it and use it in place of the cooked chicken breasts for even less prep time.
What if I don’t have access to canned crescent rolls?
If you don’t have crescent rolls, you can try puff pastry or biscuit dough as an alternative. Just be sure to adjust the baking time if needed, as puff pastry may take a little bit longer to cook.
Trish’s Tips
- Be sure to press the edges of the crescent dough together tightly to seal in all the fillings and prevent cheese from spilling out while baking.
- Thinly sliced chicken ensures a more even roll and gives each bite a good balance of meat and cheese.
- Chilled dough is easier to work with and less likely to tear when you’re rolling it up.
- Lining your baking dish with parchment paper helps with easy cleanup and ensures the rolls don’t stick.

I’m wondering the same thing. Did you try it?
Meredith K says
These were great. The only problem was that it took 30 minutes to fully cook. I took them out at 19 min and the bottom edge was still raw dough.
PS. I have found and come to love crescent roll dough in a sheet so you don’t have to press together the seem (found at Wal-Mart & Publix).

How do you cut them into small rolls? They look delicious!
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
After you’ve rolled up the log – like a cinnamon roll – then you slice them into rounds Amy. Hope that helps!
Angie says
These were super easy and delicious. The boys gobbled them up. We like spicy so I added just a tad – and I mean a tad – of horseradish to the honey-dijon sauce. Will definitely make these again and will try omitting the Italian seasoning and replacing it with sliced pepperoncini. I like the idea of using different meats, cheeses, veggies, etc. Thanks for the recipe!

You are a dear Sandra! And yes, this pie pretty much screams summer to me too. Of course, I guess we’re deep into Spring here in Sacramento. 70s. 80s. That’s March for us 😉

I plan on making this one day. Did you roll it the long way or short way?
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Roll from the long end Jenair, just like for cinnamon rolls. Enjoy!
Shelby says
Thanks for the idea! I filled mine with soy “chicken”, Mexican cheese, sour cream mixed with taco seasoning, and red peppers. After it was done cooking I added more cheese on top. It was delicious! Thanks for making dinner a success.

Hubby and I came across this recipe a few days ago and I knew we had to try it. Of course, living in an isolated town in the arctic means having to change things up a bit, especially as there were no crecent rolls in town! No worries – we whipped up a quick pie crust and made tarts. I filled them with cooked chicken and some left over ham and then drizzled the honey mustard sauce on before topping with some Swiss cheese. Oh my they were YUMMY! Thanks for the inspiration!!
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Sounds delicious! I love that you made this recipe your own!
Amallia @desire to eat says

Thank you so much Amallia! We LOVE these rolls!

This is a wonderful recipe! Husband and I loved it!! I made a couple of changes that just fit our tastes. I used the Swiss cheese and used thick slices of ham from the deli counter, Boars Head rosemary and thyme ham. Then added pickle spears. My dad always did that to his cordon bleu and so I do it. Thanks for the recipe. It is delish!! Definitely going into the weekly rotation. 🙂
