Chicken Cordon Bleu Crescent Rolls Recipe
These Chicken Cordon Bleu Crescent Rolls are one of my go-to recipes when I need something quick, easy, and totally delicious. There’s just something about the combination of melty Swiss cheese, savory ham, and tender chicken wrapped up in flaky crescent dough that feels like pure comfort food.
It’s one of those dishes that looks impressive, but it doesn’t take much time or effort to make. It’s the perfect easy dinner for a busy weeknight or when I’m hosting friends and want something everyone will love.
I love how versatile this recipe is, too. Sometimes, I make it for dinner with a side salad, and other times I’ll whip it up as an appetizer or snack for a party. And if I’m feeling fancy, I’ll serve it with the honey Dijon mustard sauce (recipe in the recipe card below!) It’s the perfect sweet and tangy pairing.
I roasted up a couple chicken breasts real quick but you could easily substitute Rotisserie Chicken and it would be even easier. The trick is making sure you slice the chicken thinly enough that it’s nice and flexible and rolls well.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Flaky, cheesy, and oh-so-satisfying, these Chicken Cordon Bleu Crescent Roll Ups are the ultimate crowd-pleaser! With just a handful of simple ingredients, you can whip up a dish that’s as impressive as it is effortless.
- Ready in under 30 minutes. When life gets busy, recipes like this are a lifesaver. From start to finish, you’ll have these rolls prepped and baked in no time. They’re perfect for those nights when you need to get something on the table quick, but still crave something warm and homemade.
- Perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re feeding your family, hosting friends, or just treating yourself, this recipe fits the bill. Pair it with a side salad for dinner, serve it as a party appetizer, or even pack leftovers for lunch the next day (if there are any!) It’s one of those dishes you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again.
- Customizable to your taste. One of the best things about this recipe is how easy it is to make it your own. Swap the Swiss cheese for cheddar, add a layer of spinach, or try a honey-baked ham for a sweeter twist. You can get creative and adjust it to suit your family’s preferences, making it a dish everyone will love!

Storage Information
Refrigerator: If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply pop them in the oven or air fryer at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until warmed through and crispy. You can also microwave them for a minute or until warm, but the crust won’t be as crispy.
Freezer: These rolls also freeze well! Wrap unbaked rolls individually in plastic wrap or foil, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. They’ll stay fresh for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake in the oven. Wrap baked rolls individually in plastic wrap or foil, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake or airfry to reheat.
Make Ahead: These rolls can be assembled in advance. Place in baking dish, cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, let the baking dish sit out while you preheat the oven and then bake as directed.
Variations to Try
- Instead of Swiss cheese, use cheddar, provolone, or even gouda for a different flavor profile. You could also add a blend of cheeses for extra richness.
- Layer in some sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or caramelized onions for a veggie-packed twist.
- Add a bit of heat by using pepper jack cheese or a touch of Dijon mustard inside the rolls for a tangy kick.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs or Parmesan cheese before baking for an extra crispy, golden crust.
- Try turkey, chicken sausage, or even bacon as a swap for the ham to create a new variation of this dish.

Can I make these rolls ahead of time?
Yes! You can assemble the rolls the night before and store them in the fridge covered with plastic wrap. When you’re ready to bake, just pop them in the oven and cook as directed.
Can I use rotisserie chicken in this recipe?
Absolutely! Rotisserie chicken is a great shortcut. Just shred or slice it and use it in place of the cooked chicken breasts for even less prep time.
What if I don’t have access to canned crescent rolls?
If you don’t have crescent rolls, you can try puff pastry or biscuit dough as an alternative. Just be sure to adjust the baking time if needed, as puff pastry may take a little bit longer to cook.
Trish’s Tips
- Be sure to press the edges of the crescent dough together tightly to seal in all the fillings and prevent cheese from spilling out while baking.
- Thinly sliced chicken ensures a more even roll and gives each bite a good balance of meat and cheese.
- Chilled dough is easier to work with and less likely to tear when you’re rolling it up.
- Lining your baking dish with parchment paper helps with easy cleanup and ensures the rolls don’t stick.

Your conversation with Reece just got me thinking – I’ve never actually been on a “real” train. A bazillion subways, but that’s just not the same. By the time I finally do, I’ll have to ask who the engineer is… could be Reece. 😉 Funny, I pinned a post last night and was just coming back to read some and noticed that we both posted Chicken Cordon Bleu dishes. Although I poached the chicken for mine, I also pointed out one of my favorite “cheat” … using a rotisserie chicken. Weird that they’re usually cheaper than buying and cooking your own too. [#PinItThurs]

Rotisserie chicken is seriously the way to go. So yummy and no stress. And my goodness you need to go on a “real” train ride 🙂 So fun!

Hi Trish,
l made this recipe today for Sunday brunch for my family. They were delicious! l didn’t leave space between my pinwheels to allow them to expand, rise and bake. Because l didn’t do this, they took much longer to bake and were a little doughy inside. The next time l make them (…and there will definitely be a next time) l will know better. Learn from my mistakes people 🙂
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe and good for you for giving it another try! Thank for the feedback Rochelle 🙂

So I have never made cinnamon rolls using cresent. When you say in your instructions to roll it like a cinnamon roll which side are you suppose to roll from. One of the ends or the sides? I’m making them now and was looking at your pics and I think if did them wrong. I don’t know it it matters or not. But I just thought it would have been useful info if it does. 🙂 So I guess we will see how these puppies turn out. I think they will be a hot mess since they seem more open then yours. The cheese will probably be all over the place rarer than in the roll itself. Haha. Oh well, it all goes down the same way right?
Jennifer says
So these turned out great!! I don’t think it matters which end or side you roll. This is a great idea and will definitely be making these scrumptious morsels again. Thanks! 🙂
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
That’s so good to know Jennifer! Thank you for stopping by and letting me know 🙂 Have a great week!
Tamie Cawley says
Sounds like it was hands down a hit with the Family. I was looking at a different recipe Trish posted describing how to pinch the corners of the crescent rolls. I had to click on this recipe in order to view the layout of pinching corners. I’m glad I did now I have another delicious recipe sure to be a hit.
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Thanks Tamie! Both recipes require the same technique and both are just delicious!
Lisa Smart says

I want to ask about the bread that is used. I am not from America and don’t have access to the product you are using. Is there any other way to make these (make the bread yourself) or is it just like regular dough? They look super yummy, really wanna try these 🙂
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Sure! You can also use regular pizza dough or even bread dough and it will be very similar. Good luck Michelle!
Shayla says
These look so yummy! I’ll be making them for sure.
I wonder how well they would freeze?
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Thanks Shayla! I haven’t tried it yet but I think they would freeze okay. Let me know if you give it a try!
