The holiday season is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s my favorite time of year and I love spending quality time with my boys baking treats and making fun crafts like these Candy Cane Christmas Trees.
There is nothing more important than spending time with our little ones and my kiddos and I are the crafty sort 🙂 These Candy Cane Christmas Trees are super versatile and can be used as ornaments, gift toppers, and even small gifts. They take hardly any time at all and are very inexpensive to make – perfect for a classroom full of kids!
What you’ll need:
- Green Felt
- glue {craft glue, or hot glue}
- yellow foam
- beads and/or other assorted “ornaments”
Instructions: Roughly measure out a piece of green felt to see how tall you want your tree to be. You want the candy cane trunk to show 🙂
Keep the felt folded and cut out a Christmas tree shape.
Cut slits where indicated for the candy cane to slide through. You want them just big enough for the candy cane.
This is what your tree should look like:
Now it’s time to decorate. Pull out the candy cane and glue on a star and some ornaments. You can use Elmer’s Glue-All or hot glue depending on ages {and speed you want to go!}. Just allow time for the glue to dry before inserting the candy cane again.
They are so pretty!
Now it’s time to insert the candy canes… And voila!
Hang them on a tree, use as a gift topper, hand them out as favors…your call!
I hope you enjoyed this little craft today and take the time to do something special with your loved ones.

Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Hi Jan! The stars are cut out from yellow foam. You can buy star stickers but I just cut mine out. The flowers are beads that you can buy at any craft store or Walmart. Have fun!

Hi! I was wondering if there are templates for the trees and stars, or did you just free-hand them? Thank you so much!

Thank you for sharing this project !! I can’t make them this year but I absolutely will next year..I think these would be great to take to a school, either a grand-childs, your own youngsters class room, a teacher that you know ,,whomever.

The CT PTSA organization is asking people to make paper snowflakes to decorate the new school Sandy Hook students will attend after the holidays. School equipment will be there but the walls will be bare. You can get the address to mail the snowflakes from the CT. PTSA website. I am making snowflakes to send in and I hope others will too!.

What a nice craft to do with kids! I think I may have all the supplies at home already and hope to make these with my boys this weekend. I posted today as well in support of Newtown and can’t get the people and their sorrow off my mind. It’s terribly sad.
