What You’ll Need
This easy recipe calls for just a handful of ingredients that you can pick up at any store. Let’s take a quick look at what you’ll need, and as always, you can find the full, printable recipe card at the end of this post.
- brownie mix – You want to look for a brownie mix that doesn’t have any mix-ins – not even chocolate chips. The reason for this is that we have to heat the brownie mix up to 165°F to make it safe to eat and if there are any mix-ins in the brownie mix, they will melt.
- pudding mix – Chocolate pudding mix gives this edible brownie batter dip an even deeper, richer chocolate flavor and creates the creamy and smooth consistency that makes this dip so delicious. Vanilla pudding mix will work in a pinch.
- cream cheese – Provides the creamy base for the dip and provides a counterpart to the sweetness from the brownie mix and pudding mix.
- whipped topping – I used Cool Whip but you can of course make homemade whipped cream. It’s a little more delicate and will need to be carefully folded into the cream cheese. If using whipped cream , the dip should be enjoyed immediately.
- milk – About a half cup of milk is needed to give this dip a dip-able consistency. Add the milk a few tablespoons at a time until you’re desired consistency is reached. I like to check with a few of my dippers to make sure they are strong enough to hold up to the dip.
How To Make Brownie Batter Dip
- Heat the brownie mix in the microwave in 30 second increments, until it reaches 165°F to make it safe to eat raw.
- Beat softened cream cheese until light and fluffy.
- Add whipped topping to the cream cheese and beat until combined.
- Gradually add the cooled brownie mix to the cream cheese mixture.
- Add milk a few tablespoons at a time until desired consistency is achieved.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Storage Information
This Brownie Batter Dip can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. I do not recommend freezing.
When serving from the refrigerator, give the dip a quick stir and if it’s too thick, you can mix in another tablespoon or two of milk to thin.
Let’s Talk About Dippers
There is no wrong way to enjoy this brownie batter dip! Whether you opt for a spoon or go a more traditional route, this dip is insanely delicious and pairs so perfectly with many dippers. Here are a few of our favorite options:
- graham crackers – honey or chocolate graham crackers would be good here.
- vanilla wafers – pretty sturdy and taste so good with the dip!
- fresh fruit – I like to add a variety such as strawberries, apples and cherries.
- pretzels – sticks, traditional, pretzel chips, chocolate dipped pretzels – all good!
- broken waffle cones – cups or bowl or use what’s left at the bottom of your package.
Frequently Asked Questions

Trish’s Tips
- Ensure the brownie mix has cooled completely before mixing in the pudding mix.
- For a lighter version, substitute the regular cream cheese and whipped topping with low-fat versions (texture will change slightly).
