This chocolate cookie recipe is perfect for Christmas cookie trays but works fabulously for all special occasions! We make these for Valentine’s Day and just random days when we’re craving chocolate. So good and easy!

What You’ll Need – Chocolate Cookies Ingredients List
This list is pretty short and sweet so let’s get to it. This is what you’ll need for this chocolate cookies recipe. Well take a look at the glaze ingredients below.
- unsalted butter – the butter should be at room temperature
- granulated sugar and brown sugar – for nice sweet cookies, the sugar adds flavor and helps the cookies to spread
- eggs – binds the cookie dough
- vanilla extract – you can also you vanilla bean paste if you prefer for a bigger vanilla punch
- instant chocolate pudding mix – the pudding mix makes these cookies extra soft and gives them big chocolate flavor
- all purpose flour – the flour provides the structure

Chocolate Glaze Ingredients
The chocolate glaze adds a touch of decadence to these chocolate cookies. Just four ingredients is all you need to make it:
- powdered sugar – adds sweetness to the chocolate glaze
- cocoa powder – provides the chocolate flavor in this glaze recipe
- milk or water – either works so use what you prefer
- vanilla extract – really makes the chocolate flavor richer
How To Make Easy Chocolate Cookies
- Preheat oven to 350F degrees and line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Cream butter and sugars together.
- Add in eggs and vanilla extract.
- Whisk together chocolate pudding, all purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add to wet ingredients.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Scoop dough, roll into 1 inch balls and place 2” apart on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the center is almost set and edges of cookies appear dry.
- Remove cookies from the oven and let cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes before moving to a cooling rack.

Chocolate Cookies with Chocolate Glaze
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar packed, light or dark
- 2 eggs room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3.9 ounces instant chocolate pudding mix
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup mini chocolate chips
- holiday sprinkles optional
Chocolate Glaze:
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- ⅓ cup cocoa powder
- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk or water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350F degrees and line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
- Add in eggs and vanilla and mix well.
- Whisk together the chocolate pudding mix, all purpose flour baking soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix just until combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Scoop out cookie dough and form 1" balls. Place cooke dough balls about 2” apart on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the center is almost set and edges of cookies appear dry.
- Remove cookies from the oven and let cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes before moving to a cooling rack.
Prepare Chocolate Glaze
- While the cookies cool, make the chocolate glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and cocoa powder. (You can also sift the two together to ensure there are no lumps.)
