Chocolate Pecan Sandies – a delightful twist on the original!
I love Christmas time because I get to make batch after batch of delicious treats. Some of my favorite Christmas time treats are Mint Chocoolate Chip Cookies, Giant, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Mint Brownies {with Ganache frosting!!}, and of course my oh-so decadent Chocolate Peanut Butter Toffee Bars – YUM! One of my favorite types of treats to give to friends and family are cookies. They are so easy to eat {maybe too easy} and everyone loves them!
I just love eating something that is a little unexpected. Snowy white on the outside and chocolaty on the inside – these Chocolate Pecan Sandies are a yummy twist on the original. The cookie is crunchy with the classic texture of a Sandies cookie. The cookies themselves are not overly sweet and so rolling them in powdered sugar adds just the right amount of sweetness to this delightful cookie. Make sure to roll the dough into nice round balls and then press down slightly if you want a more dome shaped cookie. The cookies do not spread so the shape they are going into the oven will be the shape they are coming out.
Chocolate Pecan Sandies
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter softened
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream the butter and sugar together in mixer until light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla and beat until combined.
- Sift the flour and cocoa powder together and add gradually to the creamed mixture.
- Mix in the pecans. Note: I use my food processor to chop the pecans. Be careful not to over process or you will make pecan butter 🙂
- Form cookie dough into 1-inch balls and place on parchment paper. Bake for 20 minutes and let cool before rolling in confectioners sugar.

Can you please put the recipe in a format that can be printed without printing 10 or 12 pages just for 1 thing?
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Hi Kelly! I’m not sure what’s going on but I just printed it and it printed out only one page – the recipe fits on about half of a single page. Make sure to press the print button in the recipe box and when the new screens opens, right-click and select print. You can select printing options from that screen. Hope that solves any confusion you might be having!

Thank you for this Trish! I tried making chocolate snowballs from my moms recipe and it didn’t work. Your recipe is very similar and now I think I know what to do! 🙂

Yay! I love how easy this recipe is and if you like things sweeter, you can up the sugar to 1/2 cup and it should still work out 🙂
